I was excited to see Trader Joe’s come out with a pumpkin overnight face mask for the fall season this year. I’ve recently gotten more into skincare, and had been curious about trying the Peter Thomas Roth pumpkin mask that looked similar to this. Although after comparing the ingredients, I don’t think this is a dupe of that. So I would go into it without having any expectations about it being like the PTR one.

Verdict on this one: It smells nice, with a fresh pumpkin scent, and not overly cloying like some pumpkin stuff can be. It’s thicker than for example the popular Glow Recipe sleeping masks (like the watermelon Glow Recipe one, though I haven’t tried the TJ’s watermelon overnight mask to compare it to). This isn’t a bad thing, just noting for people who care about texture. It spreads easily over the face, although it seems to take a bit longer to sink in than the Glow Recipe type.

I have combination skin and get acne/breakouts pretty easily, and I’m happy to report that I did not wake up with any breakouts the morning after using this. My skin didn’t feel dry or overly greasy either. It didn’t feel as ‘firmed up’ as when using the Glow Recipe overnight mask, but it did feel nicer than if i hadn’t used it at all.

Overall I would give this 3.5/5, or a B+. It’s totally worth getting if you like pumpkin stuff and doing overnight masks (it can also be used as a regular rinse-off mask if you use more at a time). It doesn’t necessarily compare in terms of dramatic skincare effect to the more expensive sleeping masks (at least in the short term comparing 1 night vs 1 night of each), but for the price it’s a perfectly good deal and enjoyable to use, especially for adding fall seasonal vibes! I don’t regret getting it, and I’ll use the rest of the jar.
