TASTE HORRIBLE!! I’ve even added it to my protien shake in efforts to try and make it better and to at least use it up instead of throwing it out. I don’t like to throw out food but this thing is so horrible omg, not even the fruits or protien powder can help

Ooooffff…this yogurt alternative was challenging for me. The texture and consistency was NOT IT. It was visually off-putting when I peeled back the foil liner. I don’t want to say it resembled snot but that’s about the best descriptor I can come up with. I thought maybe if I stirred it that would help…oh no no no no no…that did not in fact help. It just highlighted the strange gel/slime texture even more. But maybe it’s delicious so I can overlook my growing list of misgivings…NOPE…failed on that account as well. A few bites in there was this very familiar sensation that it took me a moment to put my finger on. The sense memory it brought back was the chemical smell from when my mom used to do home perms in the 80s.

I’m not one for food waste, so I’ll find a way to use the rest of the tub but I fear it’s going to involve a good deal of fancying up for me to finish it. Don’t foresee this being a repeat purchase for me.

The closest thing to real yogurt I’ve ever had

I like it. I have tried many yogurt alternatives and this one is definitely of of the best, though I see others don’t like it.

I’m not vegan/vegetarian but wanted to try yogurt alternatives because I was curious and would like to make healthier option switches. THIS YOGURT IS NOT IT, it’s thinner than most yogurts and the smell/taste is very bizarre to me. Just the first taste made me want to spit it out, it reminds me of vomit. The aftertaste does remind me of cashews but it was very difficult to finish. I hate to waste food, but my gag reflexes were telling me not to ingest this. Trader joe has so many options, i would not be reaching for this again.

I want it to be good. But it is not. It had a very tangy taste and when I first ate some I had wondered if it had already gone bad. I have a whole tub now and don’t know what to do with it. Would not recommend 🙁

I eat a mostly plant-based diet and have tried *a lot* of vegan yogurts. This one wasn’t it for me. I actually liked the texture & consistency a lot – it was pretty spot on – but the tanginess was so strong that it tasted a bit like vomit to me. It tasted sour, but not in a healthy-Greek-yogurt way. The flavored versions of this yogurt are really good – wish they had added a bit of vanilla or something to counteract the taste. I really wanted to like this – I think mixing it with nutella might save it.

I’ve had the Vanilla Bean flavor countless times and I love it…that being said, this yogurt was very sour and contains a pungent smell. I didn’t mind it as I added honey and raspberries but (this may be just my own reaction) I definitely had a “loose” stomach after eating it.

Tastes awful, bought it a week ago. Properly refrigerated, and well within date. Maybe it has soured, or spoiled somehow.

This is the first cultured, non dairy yogurt I’ve seen that is accessible and not overly expensive. I was so excited about this and it met my expectations. Protein powder & collagen powder mix very well. I add agave & cinnamon because I like my yogurt a little sweeter and it’s amazing. On its own it’s not great, obviously it’s unflavored and unsweetened so that’s what I expected. It’s great to mix with literally anything you want. I highly recommend

I’m kind of surprised by the mixed reviews! I think this is delicious – I’ve been eating it with fresh strawberries, TJs muesli, and some SF maple syrup drizzled on top. So filling and is the perfect neutral base.

Really like it 🙂 I make it with raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, granola, honey & cinnamon. It doesn’t taste super sour on its own to me. Have purchased this multiple times. I do, however, leave the foil on when I put the lid back down. One time I didn’t & there was mold before the expiration date. I don’t mind this though, because things that spoil fast are typically healthier for you lol!

I love it. It’s great with granola and in my smoothie.

Here’s the thing – it isn’t yogurt, and it especially isn’t Yoplait. If you are looking for Yoplait, you can just eat that. This is its own thing. I had a heck of a time finding good vegan sour cream (Tofutti is awful, and so is most other vegan sour cream). This is a great substitute. Throw this on tacos and potatoes, it works just like sour cream does. Maybe that’s why people are finding it too sour, or saying it has a weird flavor – because it is closer to sour cream, or one of the more crunchy, hippie yogurts like Nancy’s. Once you think of it that way and use it as such, I suspect begrudgers will like it more.

I really like this cashew yogurt. I’m still learning about it though. If you eat it with fruit– eat it right away. I mixed a whole large container with a whole bag of frozen tart cherries and a little honey and the yogurt liquified. Maybe the combination of fruit acid and this yogurt make it lose its thicker consistency. It still tasted good, it was just as think as milk.

Thank you Trader Joe’s for bringing a plain flavored cashew based yogurt to your shelves! Delicious w/maple syrup and fruit, or mix it w/Indian curry soy curls and veggies, for a creamier sauce. Mmmmmm!

  17. Ertha Patrick

Delicious! Perfection! I have the plain flavor every day for breakfast. I add a few blackberries and a sprinkling of pure Elizabeth grain free vanilla almond butter granola. Thank you Trader Joe’s!

I got the Vanilla Bean. The flavor was just ok. Kind of vanilla but not overly so. It is VERY liquid and almost poured all over me when I opened it. This is like a drink in a yogurt cup. Not a fan. Will not purchase it again. As a side note, this is the first Trader Joe’s product I have ever had an issue with. Love Trader Joe’s!

This is wonderful. I think people who don’t like it need to understand that it is a plain yoghurt (alternative) and they probably wouldn’t like real plain yoghurt anyway.

If you are looking for genuine yoghurt taste, this is the closest to the real thing. It’s slightly more sour and runny, but the taste is very close and it’s delicious.

  20. VSB

I liked the taste and flavor, but it upset my stomach and gave me some pretty bad gas. I can’t recommend it.

  21. Marcia

I love this yogurt. It tastes so good and it has a rich texture.

  22. Jordyn

Delicious. It is smoother than yogurt. But it is also healthier. I add a spoon of nut butter, berries and some slices of banana and mix it, then stick it in the freezer for about 30 minutes and I have the most delicious treat. I’m not a heath nut but this is really helping me stay on track with healthy eating

  23. Helena

    Tart. Perfect for smoothies.

  24. Tricia

It’s a great yogurt alternative! Yes, it’s sour (just like unsweetened yogurt) but if you mix it with cocoa powder and monkfruit, drop some raw walnuts and berries on top, it’s DELICIOUS! Perfect start or end to the day!
(side note: Cocoa powder also contains polyphenols, antioxidants that help to improve cholesterol and blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. Cocoa powder is rich in theobromine, which helps to reduce inflammation and can protect you from diseases such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.)

  25. cynthia

loved it. flavorful. i tried the vanilla bean and berries. i am not really a yogurt eater pre vegan and as a vegan just trying to get in some probiotics. better than oatly taste wise.

  26. Laura

I loved it! Exactly what I was looking for in a milk yogurt alternative. Excellent!

  27. TERRY PAUL SHRYOCK

Shocked at how good it is!!

The bad reviews are strange to me – but then again they may be from people who eat dairy and aren’t used to the other vegan yogurts, or they are used to sugary yogurts. This is by far the best vegan plain yogurt I’ve ever had. I dilute it and add lemon to make vegan sour cream, I add to smoothies, I mix with nuts berries and maple syrup for parfaits, and as a vegan binding agent to replace eggs in baked goods or vegan “meat”balls – seriously it’s so versatile. I never eat just plain unsweetened yogurt on it’s own, but as far as using in recipes – this is it. I love it.
