I love these. There are a little on the sweet side (reminiscent of boxed cornbread mix ), but with a little salsa and sour cream I think they are awesome

These are an excellent vegetarian version of tamales. No one but TJ’s carries them and I hope my store stocks them again!

Don’t get me wrong, these are good quality and tasty (if you know what to expect), but my low star rating is because they are unnecessarily sweet. I honestly don’t understand why they even add sugar to the dough. If you are hoping for salty/savory tamales, these are not it. I haven’t tried their other flavors (beef, pork); this review is exclusively for the chile and cheese version.

Our family is use to making and eating tamales during special occasions. I was surprised with the TJ version. Our family finds them to be a delicious addition with our morning coffee. No, they are not like home-made or traditional. A modification of sorts, and that is perfectly fine with us. It’s nice to be able to go to TJ and buy this item as opposed to making them by scratch every time we have a hankering. I am eating them as I write this. I only wish there were more to a pack. The Green Chili are my favorite. I eat them without any type of additions such as sour cream and such. Traditional tamales are a meal within themselves, as many indigenous meals were meant to be eaten on the go.
