Trader Joe’s description: “These are like our Chocolate Covered Lebkuchen in that they’re gingerbread biscuits enrobed in Dark Chocolate. But they are also significantly different. First, these Cookies are shaped like little people. The golden cookies are soft and more mildly spiced than Lebkuchen, and without the traditional nuts or fruit.”

I like the texture, which is interesting – they’re soft yet chewy. I’m sure they’d be great for the right person, but I would’ve liked the gingerbread cookie folk to taste more ginger-y, and to me the other spices overpower it. For example, the coriander, fennel, and star anise were stronger than I would’ve liked. I know those are common ingredients in gingerbread, but this just didn’t taste like the ginger-forward type of gingerbread or ginger cookies that I prefer.

I thought these were horrible. I love gingerbread and I love dark chocolate but there was something way off with both the flavor and the texture. Will not buy these again. I couldn’t even finish my cookie.

Have you ever wondered what a gingerbread marshmallow would taste like? I bought two packages out of curiosity (I thought I could bring some to a party) but in less than 24 hours I had no packages left. I opened one package in the car on the way home thinking it would be a nice snack in rush hour. That package was gone before I reached my house. The next morning I couldn’t stand the temptation and opened the 2nd package. I love gingerbread, the old-fashioned kind that softens as it ages, and these HIT THE SPOT. I would never have thought to cover gingerbread in chocolate because I’m not a chocolate lover, but honestly it works with these. A chocolate-covered gingerbread marshmallow is the closest description I can give. YUM. TJ’s, you hit this one out of the ballpark!

The clerk said these were the hottest item this Christmas, and I got the last pack, so I had high ecpectations. They just didn’t do it for me. I liked the texture of the soft cookie, but the flavor had doo much strong spice.
