This was surprisingly delicious, and as close to Beef Wellington as I have ever eaten in a frozen or previously prepared food, i.e., not in a restaurant and not home-made. The duxelles were as good as any I have ever had whether homemade or in a restaurant (!) , and were plentiful, and the puff pastry excellent and light and crispy. I followed the directions on the box, and the beef comes out medium well that way, so if you prefer your beef more rare, you should bake for less time. I hope this is not a seasonal product, that it is made all year long, because I want to run back to Trader Joe and get it for New Year’s Eve dinner! (I picked this up at around Thanksgiving because they were already sold out of the Turkey en Croute, but can’t wait to try out the turkey next year at Thanksgiving.)

I thoroughly enjoyed the Beef En Croute / Wellington for Christmas dinner. I went back the day after Christmas to get another for New Year’s eve dinner, but it is no longer available. I was really disappointed as I wish I had known this was a seasonal item. I wish it was available all winter long because it is great for Sunday dinner too.

Surprisingly, this is gaggingly awful. Beef not apparent, mushroom overwhelming, bland beyond belief, no texture. Encroute is the only redeeming thing.
