  4. Meg –

Love these pitas! Excellent in every way, especially in nutrition and texture! No seed oils or additives; not glue-y like most pitas; good protein and fiber. They last a long time in the fridge and also do fine if frozen. You don’t have to mangle these to open them. For best results, toast them just enough to separate the edges, then use a fork to open the pocket. Fill and eat, or return the opened pita to the toaster for more crispness. They hold up well with any filling. TJ’s, please, please do not change or discontinue this item! Well, making them non-GMO would be okay as long as you don’t change anything else!

  5. Dan the man –

    they’re alright

  6. C Sherry –

I used to like these a lot, but they recently changed the ingredients/recipe: they’ve added sugar, gluten and white flour, among other things, and the result is awful: doughy, glutinous, sickly sweet with a bitter aftertaste. I hope they go back to the original recipe or I’ll never buy these again.

  7. Sean M –

I agree with C Sherry, I have been a fan of the version in the picture for decades , went through 3 packs a week. The new version is awful, too much sugar, doughy. Not buying it ever.

I also agree with the above. It’s so disappointing! Trader Joe’s BRING BACK THE OLD PITA WITH WHOLE WHEAT AND NO SUGAR, until then, I will have to make my own. That’s a lot of work, but less plastic use…

  9. Ana –

The former version was the best I had found in the Northwest! I preferred Trader Joe’s WW pita bread to Ezekiel pita bread, because the texture and taste was so much better—great, in fact. Bummer, back to Ezekiel!

  10. Unhappy customer –

I agree with the commentators just above. Trader Joe’s changed their whole wheat Pita bread recipe to include oil, wheat gluten, and cane sugar. Really!? Although I like the new soft bread texture and taste, I preferred the older version WITHOUT any of the above additives. Like why do manufacturers think changing an ALREADY-WORKING recipe is good!? This was one of the FEW non-additive-added, whole-wheat foods available in the market and now THAT is also gone! TJ ALSO increased the weight to 18oz and increased the price by a $1 to $2.99. Repeat after us: What is not broken DOES NOT need “FIXING”! So I too will have to look for other alternatives now! What a let down! Please bring back the older wheat pita or at least offer that as an ADDITIONAL option!

  11. Eve Nyren –

Agree with above. For years T J whole wheat pitas were a staple for me, nothing but yeast, wheat and water. 160 calories. Now 200 calories and contains refined sugar and preservatives. Yuck. As usual I had bought a few packages and planned to freeze all but the opened one, but after tasting and then reading the label I threw them all away. I will have to buy more expensive ones made with organic wheat at the Sacramento Natural Foods coop. It took me a few days to decide to toss them and I had already frozen some, so too late for a refund.

  12. Joe Digrande –

bring back the old pitas – these are not even close to OK

  13. Alan in CA –

The new “improved” whole wheat pitas are aweful !!! Why the added sugar, sunflower oil, and wheat gluten ? And now blimped up to 200 calories with all the extra ingredients !
It now has the taste and texture of a stale chewy Ritz Cracker for god’s sake !

Please please please bring back the old recipe with the few simple ingredients – “Stone Ground Whole Wheat Flour, Water, Yeast ” !
