Writing this review June 2021. I bought this Trader Joe’s Chicken Marsala with mashed potatoes in Portsmouth NH. Prior to this, at least once/month I bought this where I lived in Southern Nevada—-since 2016—-and for years I ADORED it. I saw it in Portsmouth NH and was thrilled. I hadn’t had this since I left Nevada in September 2020—I loved this so much that it happened to be the last dinner I had before moving to NH. So I bought a box for myself and my Mom–so excited to turn her onto it. We are both good cooks and discerning about what we eat. We were both stoked to have this. WELL: (1) the potato recipe has changed–it is LOADED with pepper, so much I now have a stomach ache and I’m not even sensitive to foods, (2) the mashed potatoes used to be absolutely sumptuous, smooth, creamy, buttery, delicious–NOW they are gummy, gluey, hard–I stuck my form into a pile and turned it upside down and it sat like a rock on my fork–are they even real potatoes anymore? (3) the chicken was covered with some kind of hard coating with ZERO flavor except SALT! It was absolutely bland, (4) the sauce used to be swoon-worthy, leading with marsala wine and the mushrooms were to die for–the sauce used to be creamy and just incredibly yummy–now there was nearly no flavor to it and it was gelatinous and wiggly and full of cornstarch, (5) the mushrooms used to be shitakes–now they were flavorless cardboard. What in god’s name happened, Trader Joe’s? This used to be close to restaurant quality—I turned so many people onto it and everyone loved it when I lived in Nevada. Sometime between September 2020 and June 2021Trader Joe’s made this egregious change in recipe? Horribly disappointed.

Mashed potatoes were really delicious and creamy! The marsala sauce wasn’t too salty and added a lot of flavor to the chicken and potatoes.

Rubbery chicken. Soggy mashed potatoes. Cooked in oven as suggested. Awful

Doesn’t look anything like picture on package and tasted like something that you’d get at a school diner.

My husband and I have enjoyed this product for many years. I’ve also returned several packages to the store because the pieces of chicken were just small little rubbery nuggets. They were replaced but they made me feel that I was doing the wrong thing rather than the product was defective. This occurred prior to covid!!
