These are amazing over Trader Joe’s French Vanilla ice cream.

My husband keeps asking why I am stock piling these- they are delicious- perfect in an old fashion and only here once a year!

These are really good, intensely flavored, genuine Italian, cherries. I use them in as decorations for a Sicilian Cassata, or less traditionally, for the cherry element in a Black Forest cake. Also good in or over ice cream, over brownies *with* ice cream, and, I’m told, in a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. I wish they were packed without stems, but if you’re using them as a drink garnish, you sort of need the stem. Much less expensive than buying through Amazon or other online sources. They only come for a short season, so I bought 6 jars this year.

Had a sample. Taste like an elevated maraschino cherry. Thought I would be able to eat them straight, but it’s a bit sweet, like an 8 on a scale of 1-10. Since I don’t eat too much sweets I have no use for them. I don’t want to make the desserts even sweeter than it already is.

They don’t taste much like the amarena cherries from Emilia Romagna. These are sweeter, softer, and less sour. They remind me more of a maraschino cherry without the neon red color. They are not bad but I’m not sure that they are actually amarena.
